Our #8, Fuka Nagano signs a new contract

As the men’s team just came off a preseason tour in Hong Kong and Japan and getting ready for the new season, the women’s team are preparing for their season to start as well. On Friday, August 1, in conjunction with Liverpool announcing the new kits with Adidas, the women also announced the contract extension of Japanese international, Fuka Nagano.
Fuka joined Liverpool FC Women in January of 2023 from the NWSL team, North Carolina, Courage. In her first interview for LFC Women she said, “I'm really pleased to play for a club that has a great history. I'm delighted to play for such a big club as it's a club everyone knows about.” The 26 year old has made 64 appearances since joining the club scoring her first goal for the reds in March at Anfield against Manchester United ending in. 3-1 win. Shortly after posted on social media’s X, “My first goal at Anfield.

She started her senior career in 2014 playing in the top division for Japanese side, Urawa Reds helping the team win league championship that year. In 2018, she played one season in Korea for Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women's Football Club before returning back to Japan. When returning to Japan, she signed for one season with Chifure AS Elfen Saitama stating her motivation to join the team was down to her great respect the coach, Hiroshi Yoshida. Followed by another season with Mynavi Sendai Ladies before moving mid season to the United States to play for North Carolina Courage and ultimately landing on Merseyside to play for the Mighty Reds.
Nagano has represented her country, playing in the winning both the U17 and U20 FIFA Women’s World Cups , and named Asian Young Footballer of the Year in 2017. In addition, she represented Japan in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2024 Paris Olympics, AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
She was set to debut on January 23, 2023 for Liverpool Women but the match was abandoned and postponed after 6 minutes into the game against Chelsea due to the horrible pitch conditions. A few days later, she made her debut against West Ham. Nagano made 21 out of 22 starts last season being an integral part of the LFCW’s line-up.
Fuka has committed her future to Liverpool FC Women stating “My journey continues with the Reds.”
